400g Granulated sugar (2 cups)
85g Cornsyrup or glucose (1/4 cup)
180ml Water (3/4 cup)
1/2 tsp Red food coloring
4–6 Medium sized apples
Sturdy sticks, skewers or popsicle sticks for dipping
Instructions
Prepare the Apples:
Wash the apples thoroughly under running water to remove any wax or debris.
Dry the apples completely with a clean kitchen towel or paper towel.
Insert sturdy sticks or skewers into the stem end of each apple. Make sure they are firmly in place.
Prepare the Candy Coating:
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat
In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, corn syrup (or glucose), and water over medium heat.
Stir the mixture until the sugar has dissolved completely.
Once the mixture comes to a boil, insert a candy thermometer into the pot.
Continue boiling without stirring until the temperature reaches 150°C (300°F) on the candy thermometer. This usually takes about 10-15 minutes.
Once the mixture reaches the desired temperature, remove it from heat.
Carefully stir in the red food coloring until the mixture is evenly tinted. Adjust the amount of food coloring according to your preference for the intensity of the color.
Holding the stick, dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, tilting the saucepan if necessary to coat the apple evenly.
Rotate the apple to ensure an even coating and allow any excess candy coating to drip off.
Place the coated apples onto the prepared baking sheet to cool and harden.
If desired, you can add additional toppings like chopped nuts or sprinkles while the candy coating is still tacky.
Once the candy coating has fully set, your candy apples are ready to be enjoyed!
